Nigerian has been beleveled by massive unemployment in recent years. Many jobs are being lose and few jobs are being create mainly by the private sectors. One of the essential reasons of having a higher education is to secure a better job.

Though in Nigeria, there are limited jobs avaliable when compare with large number of job seeker. Despite government policy and their perceived conviction of finding a lasting solution for unemployment and youth empowerment, much has not been changed recently.

In as much as the content of this article is not about unemployment, but it helps to drive us and shine more light about choosing courses or programme in our universities for a better employability.

In these tough unemployment condition where more graduates are joining already graduated student in search of a better job, for future students planning to enroll for their higher education degrees in Nigeria univerisities, there is need to consider and choose a course that holds a better future for you than just going to university because you want to follow other or you want to please society for being a graduate.

I stand to be corrected. In most developed world, the department of labour and statistic usually publish a labour outlook report which predicts jobs that will be in high demand currently and within a stipulated time-frame based on economic trend.

This is a vital information for those who wish to switch field and students about enrolling on for a course in the university, but there is no such statistic in Nigeria which could server as a guide. Which course hold a better future for you in Nigeria in term of employment and reasonable payment?.

I do not in anyway wish the bring down any field or profession but the fact still remains that in Nigeria, there are some fields that you hardly see an advert about a vacant position. Some of the course that I listed here can be rewarding with high chance of employment and big bucks salary.

1. Health care

Health care is an indispensible area in human endeavour. We can carry out activities soundly only when we are healthy. No matter the way you look at it Medicine as a course hold better employment opportunity. There are other mergering field within the medical field, biomedical engineering, telemedicine ect. that can boost you chance of employment.

2. Engineering

Engineering is without mention a good field to choose. Many will argue with me that there are a lot of engineering graduates that loiters along the street with no job. Beside being true but the opportunities are glaring.

If you are thinking of engineering course, I presumably beleive that telecommunication specialities is that bomb. things like antenna technology and signal processing. Also the next hot area within computer is mobile apps. Almost every tech guy in Nigeria is preaching about web development and design while limited companies are in mobile apps world. You can fit in by learning java for Java 2 ME and andriod apps or objective C for Iphone and Ipad apps development

3. Environmental

The whole world is pushing and moving towards green evironment, green production and green energy. Alternative energy is an emegring area that will bring back life to graduate who followed this path in the degrees. The courses to consider within these areas are biotechnology (biogas production), solar energy generation and bio-remediation.

4. Marketing

Almost every company is in the business to make profit. As Nigerian economy constantly expands and grows, there will be a continous need for marketers who will use their professional skills to make sure that their products are not only produce but customers are waiting for it to be produce. Consider Marketing within the faculty of management science

5. Designers

Graphic design, animator and video game designer is a constantly growing area in Nigeria that might interest you. If you are interested, you can choose to study computer graphics in the university, I wish to emphasis that passion drives most of the things we enjoy doing. Make sure that the passion is there before starting.

This is not the exhausted list of the best study field or professions that has a better opportunity and possible big salary. You can suggest you own field and it might serve as an idea for others.

Drogba, Eboue To Be Penalized For Paying Tributes To Mandela During Football Match?

Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Eboue face fines from the Turkish FA after displaying vests bearing tributes to Nelson Mandela. The two Ivory Coast internationals unveiled their personal messages after Galatasaray’s game against Elazigspor on Friday, their first game after the death of South African icon Mandela.

Chelsea legend Drogba peeled off his shirt at the 2-0 win to reveal a tribute which said: ‘Thank you Madiba’ and former Arsenal defender Eboue’s vest said: ‘Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela’.

The Turkish FA (TFF) are planning to summon the Galatasaray pair to appear before the Professional Football Discipline Committee because they had not sought prior permission to display their messages.

It is in contrast to England where games this weekend have been preceded by a minute of applause in celebration of Mandela’s life and his role in ending apartheid in South Africa and transforming the international profile of Africa.

Nelson Mandela is now at peace. He died at 95

Nelson Mandela, the revered South African anti-apartheid icon who spent 27 years in prison, led his country to democracy and became its first black president, died Thursday at home. He was 95.

"He is now resting," said South African President Jacob Zuma. "He is now at peace."

"Our nation has lost its greatest son," he continued. "Our people have lost a father."

A state funeral will be held, and Zuma called for mourners to conduct themselves with "the dignity and respect" that Mandela personified.

"Wherever we are in the country, wherever we are in the world ... let us reaffirm his vision of a society in which none is exploited, oppressed or dispossessed by another," he said as tributes began pouring in from across the world.

President Obama said his first political action was an anti-apartheid protest inspired by Mandela, who "achieved more than could be expected of any man."

“I cannot fully imagine my own life without the example Nelson Mandela set," he said.

Obama called Zuma on Thursday evening to express his heartfelt condolences, according to the White House.

Though he was in power for only five years, Mandela was a figure of enormous moral influence the world over – a symbol of revolution, resistance and triumph over racial segregation.

He inspired a generation of activists, left celebrities and world leaders star-struck, won the Nobel Peace Prize and raised millions for humanitarian causes.

South Africa is still bedeviled by challenges, from class inequality to political corruption to AIDS. And with Mandela’s death, it has lost a beacon of optimism.

In his jailhouse memoirs, Mandela wrote that even after spending so many years in a Spartan cell on Robben Island – with one visitor a year and one letter every six months – he still had faith in human nature.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion,” he wrote in “Long Walk to Freedom.”

“People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

Mikel Loses BBC African Footballer of the Year Award to Yaya Toure

Hopes of having Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, named BBC African Footballer of the Year Award for 2013 was dashed on Monday evening as Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, was picked ahead of the Nigerian.

Mikel who made the final shortlist of three after compatriot Victor Moses was dropped going into the last round will now hope for better luck next time as he attempts to be the second Nigerian after Jay Jay Okocha to win the prestigious award.

Seen by many as a worthy winner , Yaya Toure is widely recognised as one of the finest midfielders of his generation and an absolute powerhouse - a general on the pitch who commands respect from every quarter.

A two-time winner of the Confederation of African Football's player of the year award, the Ivorian is also the only African on the 23-man shortlist for this year's FIFA world player of the year.

Having lost to Toure in the BBC award, Mikel will hope he has the last laugh when the winner of the CAF African football player of the year award is announced in January in Lagos.

Mikel played a prominent role in Nigeria's triumph at the African Nations Cup in January.
